Your continued support is valued in so many ways, and we want to share some of the encouraging stories we’ve seen over the past summer. We have seen the power to shape and develop character through the investment of relationships formed at camp. These “streams of influence” will yield great blessing not only to the many here but to the ever widening circles around the globe. This summer 30 young people made decisions to follow and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. During our final week of Senior Teens five of them were baptized, each of them declaring their commitment to follow Christ. Please consider your financial investment in Kawkawa as a direct investment in the spiritual lives of these young people.

We’re also very happy to share that a very generous donation has allowed us to schedule a renovation to the shower/laundry room facilities in Dogwood. This will take place this winter and help equip us to better serve our adult rental groups. If the Lord lays it upon your heart, please consider supporting the many projects at Kawkawa.

One of the greatest delights of our summer camp programs in 2011 was to see the response to our new Work Crew and Leadership in Training programs. Both programs were filled to the maximum this summer!

One of the objectives of our camping program is the long term development of its staff. At Kawkawa this can start as early as 13 years old with a week serving on “Work Crew.”

Our aim is to start building a work ethic into today’s youth. Participants come for a week but often ask to stay for more as they find how fun working at camp with a bunch of other friends can be. The Leadership-In-Training program is a separate two week course aimed at High School aged students. Here the youth are taught and equipped with the basic components that are demanded in a position of leadership regardless if it’s a camp setting or beyond the gates of camp. It is anticipated that these programs will fill fast for the 2012 summer camping season. Registration forms will be available January 1st 2012 on our website.

As I stand on the deck of the old camp house I view a complete mess in front of me, but I could not be happier! You see I am staring at the construction disarray caused by the building of the new camp residence. The heaps of dirt and gravel, scattered bits of wood debris, crane trucks delivering wood and cement, uneven roadways, it’s all quite a commotion. Yes, but all this means great things are happening! The house is finally being built! With 80% of the funds in place only about $35,000 is needed to bring the new residence to completion. Maybe the Lord is causing you to consider making a year end donation to the project which is due to be completed in the Spring 2011.

Covered in prayer

In an act of love, a group of the CMU students staying at the camp asked permission to cover the building in prayer. They have filled the rough plywood walls with scripture and have walked through, around, and over as they prayed and dedicated the building to God’s glory and to His purposes. Thanks CMU!

The changing face of Kawkawa

With the construction of the residence, new access road for food service delivery, renovations to both cabin 102 and the dining hall, replacement of the old bridge over the dry creek. Kawkawas appearance is starting to change. It is time you came out and took a look for yourselves! The Spirit of God is alive and active at Kawkawa. Our ultimate goal is that God will be glorified and Christ exalted in all we do. Follow us as we trust in God to unfold His plans for Kawkawa. We are at the start of something big!

Summarizing the ministry of Kawkawa can be wrapped up in the words: “Christian Camping with a Purpose!” In October 2010, Kawkawa received its first building permit in 25+ years. This has allowed us to construct a new on-site residence now occupied by the Executive Director and his family. Attaining this building permit, it paves the way for future development include an outdoor gymnasium, new lodge and re-designed waterfront with new composite docks. Several significant donations have assisted the efforts to bring the camp back on-line. The phrase “God is not finished with Kawkawa yet” was adopted as our future marching orders.

After a 25+ year wait, and much prayer and paperwork we have received a long awaited permit to build a new residence at camp. The location will be a prominent one in our busy landscape as the house is scheduled to replace the old administration trailer at the foot of the driveway up to the main lodge. The 2300 sq. ft. building will have two levels, a lakeview and a covered front porch. This 4 bedroom dwelling will house our new director and his family.

Functionality and Security
The look and location of this new residence will serve several purposes. The building is designed to show in a practical sense where the future of Kawkawa is going. The green metal roof is not only durable with a lifespan outlasting most asphalt roofs but pleasant to view also. Exterior rock work along with large post and beams will give the building a West Coast look and feel. It is a view of the desired future look and feel of Kawkawa.

Location, location, location!
The functional location will serve as an added security measure to our well travelled site. Anyone wanting to visit the camp site is asked to check in with the Administration before entering the grounds. Guided camp tours can be easily arranged with a phone call to the camp office any weekday. A generous gift given in the recent past has been kept in trust for the building of the new residence. The cost of the building with some modifications is estimated in the $180,000 range. The gift in trust along with many other generous donations has our present support at approximately$140,000. Gifts are tax deductible and can be made out to the Kawkawa Camp & Retreat Society, they can be received at the Kawkawa Camp Office at66706 Kawkawa Lake Road, Hope , BC V0X 1L1.

Volunteers & Skilled Trades wanted!
In order to keep our building costs as reasonable as possible our general contractor Frank Stegenga has agreed to use skilled volunteers and trades people whenever possible. A building schedule has been drawn up and with the goal of a Spring completion date. Your on going prayers and support of Kawkawa are coveted as we enter this newest phase of the re-development and rebuilding of Kawkawa Camp Retreat Centre.
